The Coast Salish nobility blanket, is called swuqw’alh in Hul’q’umi’num’ and in SENĆOŦEN (Saanich language). The swuqw’alh is a blanket woven mostly from mountain goat wool. It was a very important part of traditional economic and ceremonial life of Coast Salish nations. In order to make the blankets men and women had to combine their efforts to collect the wool, trade, make tools, spin, and weave.
