File # 2018 Unsolved crimes
1.Nanaimo file # 2018-1316 For the past two months’ thieves have been stealing below ground copper wire from BC Hydro manholes, located near the intersection of Nanaimo River Rd and South Wellington Road. The estimated cost to replace and repair the stolen copper wire which stretches over 2 kilometres is in the range of $100,000. To carry out this theft, requires specialized equipment to lift the extremely heavy lid, specific tools, including a full size truck and at least 2 individuals.
2. Nanaimo file # 2018-1297 On Friday January 12th 4 storage lockers on the second level at 1681 Boundary Ave were broken into. The thefts may have occurred over the past month and taken was a Dyson vacuum, an old computer and a tool box of various tools.
3. Nanaimo file # 2018-1423 Sometime between 8 am and 4 pm on Saturday January 13th a home in the 100 block of Machleary St was broken into. Entrance was made through the back door and taken were some unique pieces of antique Native silver jewellery.
4. Nanaimo file # 2018-1772 Sometime between 4 pm on Monday January 15th and 12 pm on Tuesday January 16th a home being renovated and located at 180 Wakesiah Ave was broken into. The suspect walked around the back of the home as noted by muddy foot prints left behind. The suspect then pushed open a sliding window to the bathroom and climbed inside. In doing so the suspect left an excellent muddy foot print in the bathtub which was examined by attending forensic officers. A number of work tools were taken.
5. Nanaimo file # 2018-1745 On Monday January 15th at approximately 7 pm an unknown male attempted to steal various items from Buckerfield's located at 1277 Island Highway South. The male entered the store and while concealing his face from the cameras took the items out to the garden area and then proceeded to place them under the fence. When confronted by employees the suspect fled on foot and in his haste left his mountain bike behind. The bike was later seized by employees of Buckerfields and in hopes the suspect returns to claim it.
6. Nanaimo file # 2018-1716 On Tuesday January 16th a trailer was stolen from a work site on Cordan Road. The trailer loaded with tools was tied with cables, fully locked and had to be dragged off the site. The trailer was located 3 hours later on Nanaimo Lakes Road minus the tools.
7. Nanaimo file # 2018-1989 Sometime overnight on Thursday January 18th a break and enter occurred at Brant Tractors located at 1830 Schoolhouse Road. The owner told police a vehicle was used to breach the exterior fence by driving through it. Once inside the compound, suspects stole 3 Bomag packers, which are used in the compaction of soils, asphalt and refuse.
8. Nanaimo file # 2018-2057 On Thursday January 18th, between 4 pm and 5:30 pm a purse was stolen from Bosley's located at 1708 Bowen Road. The lone employee told police the purse was taken from an employee room that two female customers who came into the business are believed to be responsible. The black leather purse contained a velvet wallet, personal ID, 2 car keys and make up. The suspects were as follows: First Nations female, 40's 5 ft. 6 heavy build with short bright dyed red hair. The second female is white, 5 ft. 7, thin build with blonde hair and was wearing a hat. The two females fled the store and left in a dark coloured vehicle which may have been Yaris
